Felician University Welcomes Incoming Students

Felician University welcomed all incoming Freshman, faculty and staff at its 2019 Convocation on Sunday, August 25, where Dr. Margaret Daingerfield, Professor of Nursing, was honored with this year’s Faculty Excellence Award.

In her address, Dr. Daingerfield spoke about her love for learning, faith, self-knowledge and importantly, service to others. She offered a message of relief to students unsure of their field of study by saying that it was after ten years of working in nursing that she realized she was drawn to teaching nursing. Of a Felician education, Dr. Daingerfield said, “Our curriculum is designed to allow you the freedom to experiment by taking courses in different areas. You will eventually need to declare a major, but even that choice can be changed later on.”

Dr. Daingerfield emphasized the need for God in our lives, quoting Corrie ten Boom, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” She ended by assuring students that they are not alone in this expedition, saying, “The Felician Community – faculty, staff, your fellow students – can help with your spiritual journey just as we can help with your academic journey.”

Dr. Daingerfield stressed service to others as an important part of our Felician tradition. She said, “Felician offers countless opportunities for you to get involved and help others. Pick one. Pick several. Take every opportunity to be of service to one another, even if on a small scale.”

Felician Alumna, Dr. Paula Binsol, who graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Felician University also addressed the incoming students. Dr. Binsol was the Vice President of the Felician College Students Nursing Association during her time at Felician. She recently graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 2019 with a Doctor of Medicine.
