About the Division

Accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), Felician College provides high quality educational programs marked by unparalleled personal attention inside the classroom. A true leader in the field, Felician’s Division of Education not only prepares students to be well educated in their subject areas, but also caring, competent and compassionate educators.

Felician College has a reputation for having one of the strongest education programs in the state of New Jersey. As a testament to the quality of our program and the success of our students, over the last several years, between 96% and 100% percent of Felician College graduates have passed the national teaching exam (Praxis).

One of the cornerstones of this success is our student teaching placement. It is a critical component of our education curricula; we place our students at more than 100 schools in over 50 school districts across the state. This placement provides the hands-on practical experience needed to be a confident and experienced teacher in the classroom. And of course, we support students every step of the way. Our faculty regularly visits students in the field to help evaluate their progress and ensure their success. This classroom experience, coupled with one-on-one supervision, helps students get ahead and be prepared.

In fact, each year the State of New Jersey presents the Governor’s Award for Best Student Teacher to 15 outstanding students from colleges throughout the state. For four consecutive years multiple students from Felician College have been honored with this award. This is a true testament to the quality of our program and the preparation and professionalism we provide to our students.

Felician College also has one of the best Curriculum Libraries in the state, putting valuable resources at the fingertips of students to help them plan lessons and be more creative in their approach to student teaching. Our Science and Technology Center enables students to practice experiments in a hands-on setting to further support the development of lesson plans.

Teaching – An Invaluable Contribution

Teaching is a career you can be proud of as it allows you to make a significant impact on the lives of many. Many feel “called” to teaching with a love of learning and a desire to share this love with others and ignite in them a curiosity and zest for knowledge.

Becoming a teacher is a wise choice, not only because of the impact you will make in serving your community, but also because teaching professionals are in demand as many of the nation’s teachers are nearing retirement age.

Felician College’s Education programs will prepare you to be a skilled and confident teacher. Our curriculum places an emphasis on child development, curriculum design, assessment, observation and recording techniques, planning strategies, educational policy, and developing an understanding of the school system and its administration. This theoretical foundation is strongly coupled with intense hands-on, practical experience that will engage you throughout the program.
