Helping Children Cope During America’s Crisis

Felician College to Offer Free Grief Training Workshop for Teachers Dealing with the Effects America’s Crisis has had on Children in the Classroom:

Rutherford, NJ—Felician College’s Department of Teacher Education will reach out to area educators by offering a free faculty development workshop on how to help children cope with the aftermath of the September 11th tragedy and also deal with other painful transitions like the loss of a parent through death, divorce, separation, or abandonment.

The workshop, “America’s Crisis—Our Grieving Children in the Classroom,” will take place on Wednesday, November 28, at 4:30 pm, in the Student Center’s multipurpose room on the Rutherford Campus (223 Montross Ave.)  It will provide two professional development hours. A certificate of participation will be supplied.  A light supper of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be included.

The two-hour workshop will be presented by Elizabeth Barca who serves as Associate Director of Adult and Graduate Admission at Felician College and is Founder and former Executive Director of the New Jersey Chapter of RAINBOWS, the world’s leading not-for-profit organization dedicated solely to providing effective grief support services for children and adolescents who have experienced major loss in their family.  Participants will be provided with user-friendly materials to use in the classroom for discussing the tragedy and aftermath of September 11, and will learn methods of helping children to cope with grief and feel a renewed sense of understanding and hope.

To register for the workshop, call (201) 559-6055 by November 26, 2001.
