Women’s Soccer Team
First-Time Conference Champs

– The women’s soccer program at
Felician
College
has had a tremendous season. In
only its fifth season of intercollegiate competition, the Lady Golden Falcons
finished the regular season with a record of
13-1-2
overall and 8-0-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) earning
them their first ever conference championship.
With a double overtime, the team won 1-0 in the semi-final round of the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament against
Dominican
College
on
October 31, 2001
. The women lost in the final round
of the Conference tournament against Holy Family on November 3.
They now move into the NAIA Region X Tournament and will compete against
Green
Mountain
on November 9 in the semi-final round to be held at
Holy
Family
College
in
Philadelphia
.
Player Honors
The
post-season accolades have already begun for the Lady Golden Falcons as two
members of the team were awarded 1st Team All-Conference selection.
Junior forward Anna Bartsch from
Hewitt
,
N.J.
, and junior forward Valerie Esposito from
Clifton
,
N.J.
, received their honors on Sunday, October 28.
Bartsch, a graduate of
West
Milford
High School
, is the team leader with 13 goals scored and 32 total points.
Bartsch received the highest total votes earning her Player of the Year
honors. Esposito, a graduate of
Saint Mary’s (
Rutherford
) High School, was an All-Conference selection last season, and she has tallied
seven goals and seven assists. Her
season was cut short by an ankle injury that
was suffered while competing against
Molloy
College
on October 23. Senior forward,
Soledad Cine, of
Miami
, Fl, was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for
the week of October 21-27. She
scored four goals and one assist in the Golden Falcons’ victories over
Molloy
College
and New Jersey Institute of Technology. In
the win over N.J.I.T., Cine scored three goals to enable Felician to clinch the
regular season title.
Head
Coach Ben “JR” DiNallo was named CACC Coach of the Year.
DiNallo, a former coach at
Immaculate
Heart
Academy
and the Academy of the Holy Angles High Schools, is in his fourth year coaching
Felician’s Lady Golden Falcons and has amassed an overall record of 43-25-3.
