Felician College Welcomes Largest Incoming Class Ever

On Monday, August 28, Felician College opened its doors to nearly 500 new students who comprise the class of 2004 and stand as the largest incoming class in the college’s history. “As one of the fastest growing colleges in New Jersey, Felician College offers quality education, rich opportunities and affordable tuition,” said Admission Director Cindy Sievewright.

More than doubling in size over the past 10 years with an enrollment that has increased by 105%, Felician College offers tuition at a rate that is the second lowest among private institutions of higher education in New Jersey.

The purchase of its Rutherford Campus in 1997 was the pivotal factor in the direction the college has taken in recent years, noted Sievewright. “Felician College has become an option for more people because of its growth and ability to provide students with more resources and services. Today, students from locales across the country and around the world add to the diverse population at Felician.”

Formerly a commuter college, the purchase of the second campus supplemented Felician College’s facilities with two resident halls which can accommodate up to 600 students, additional classroom and office space, a second cafeteria, and a gymnasium. Just prior to the purchase of the Rutherford campus, Felician College inaugurated its first athletic teams, and Felician College now offers a growing competitive athletic program. A member of NCAA Division II athletics, the Golden Falcons compete in baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, cross country, track, and cheerleading.

A co-ed, liberal arts, Catholic college, Felician College enrolls 1500 students in 40 undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts and sciences, health sciences, and teacher education. Felician College is located on two suburban campuses in Lodi and Rutherford, New Jersey, just 12 miles from New York City and a few miles from the New Jersey Meadowlands sports complex. With classes offered on both campuses, convenient shuttle buses transport students to and from the two locations which are less than 10 miles apart. Founded in 1942 by the Felician Sisters in the Franciscan tradition, Felician College prides itself on being student-centered and community-oriented. Small classes, peer-tutoring, accessible computer labs and convenient library hours help students to succeed in an academically rigorous environment.
