Felician College’s Historic Castle to Benefit from Some “Reconstructive Surgery”

Rutherford, NJ—Rutherford residents and visitors to Felician College’s Rutherford campus may notice some “reconstructive surgery” being performed on the college’s historic 19th-century castle.  Scaffolding will go up during the first week of September and work will begin shortly thereafter to stabilize the castle’s original clay roof tiles.

Designed in the 1880s by Architect William Henry Miller, the Iviswold castle was built as a private home for David Ivison, and has been used for a variety of purposes over the years including a meeting place for the Union Club of Rutherford and administrative space for Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Its interior is targeted for future renovation by Felician College so that it may meet the needs of a growing student body while also serving as a community resource for area organizations.  With its fanciful medieval turrets, Romanesque porte cochere and exquisite stained glass windows, the castle’s restoration will ensure its future as a magnificent centerpiece of the Rutherford, NJ, community.

Felician College is a coeducational, liberal arts, Catholic college, founded in the Franciscan tradition by the Felician Sisters.  Located on two campuses in Lodi and Rutherford, NJ, Felician College enrolls 1600 students in 40 undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts and sciences, health sciences, and teacher education.
