Graphic Design / Advertising

growing applications of digital technology.
The Office of Continuing Education offers either individual courses or a
five-course certificate in Computerized Graphic Design / Advertising.

Introduction to WEB
Design and Computerized Graphics
This course is a hands-on
survey of Web Design and Computer Graphics.
Students learn techniques for producing web-based and multimedia material
as they learn how to design in HTML formats and integrate hypertext linkages,
sound images and moving images into their productions.
Instructions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9pm,
beginning on October 2nd ending on November 6th.
Digital Layout and Production
With a focus on the popular
Quark Express software package, students will learn the fundamental principles
of graphic design necessary for desktop publishing.
Students will combine graphic and text elements from many sources to
composite finished page layouts. Classes
begin on October 1st and will be held from 6-9pm on Monday and
Wednesday evenings concluding on November 5th.
Digital Image Manipulation
A studio class with hands on
training in Photoshop and Illustrator, this course covers the fundamental
building blocks of image editing and preparation through “real world”
applications. Emphasis will be
placed on identifying proper image preparations techniques.
Students will examine the hardware and software necessary to acquire and
manipulate graphics on the IBM platform and the difficulties of cross-platform
communication. Classes run from
November 15th through December 20th and are held on
Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9pm.
Copy Writing and Logo Design
Students learn how to translate
client specifications into a complete advertising/marketing program.
Specific areas of discussion will focus around writing powerful marketing
copy, logo, design, and brand identity/loyalty.
Real word application and the creative process will be discussed.
Classes meet from 6-9pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings from November 14th
through December 19th.
Terminology and Methods in Advertising
This course will focus on file
formats and industry lingo necessary for successful communication in the current
world of computerized graphic design/advertising.
Students will gain understanding of bit depths, color palettes, file
formats and more. Industry specific
hardware and software will be reviewed and demonstrated.
Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9pm, from
January 8th through the 17th.
