College SIFE Team Awarded Trophy for Outreach Projects at Free Enterprise
Competition
Lodi &
Rutherford, New Jersey--The Felician College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
Team was awarded a trophy for second runner up in its league when students
matched their educational outreach projects against the programs of other SIFE
Teams at the 2002 Students in Free Enterprise Regional Competition and Career
Opportunity Fair held April 18 in New York City. Professor Beth Castiglia,
advisor for the Felician College SIFE Team, was named a Sam M. Walton Free
Enterprise Fellow in recognition of her leadership and support of the SIFE
program at Felician College.
Students in Free
Enterprise encourages students to take what they are learning in the classroom,
apply it to real-life situations, and use it to better their communities through
educational outreach projects. The projects presented by the Felician College
SIFE Team included small business consultations, high school college survival
workshops, and pre-school introduction to business presentations.
Teams were judged on
the effectiveness of their projects during a 24-minute presentation and were
evaluated on creativity and innovation, results of education programs, success
in utilizing resources and documentation of activities. Felician College SIFE
students also met with dozens of corporate representatives from the New York
City business community to discuss job opportunities. Regional champions named
at twenty-one competitions held around the country will present their projects
at the 2002 SIFE USA National Exposition, sponsored by the Kansas City Business
Community, May 12-14 in Missouri. The National Champion in the four-year
