Felician Soccer Player Named Student-Athlete of the Month

Felician women's soccer senior standout Allie Couzo has been named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2012.

Couzo, a native of Sayreville, N.J., has excelled athletically and in the classroom during her four years at Felician and has also become a leader among her peers in the community.

The senior became the Golden Falcons' regular starting goalkeeper just four games into her freshman campaign and has been a fixture since. This season she ranks among conference leaders in save percentage (.788) and goals against average (1.56). As a junior she started all 16 games in which she appeared, while posting 10 wins and four shutouts to go along with a 1.37 GAA.

Couzo was named to the CACC All-Tournament Team during her freshman season and has been a two-time CACC All-Academic honoree. She was a 2011 All-CACC Second Team choice and has guided the Golden Falcons to a postseason berth in each of her first three seasons.  She currently ranks second among Felician's career leaders in wins (24) and sits third among the program's all-time shutout leaders (6).

Couzo also has been active on campus during her collegiate career as she is a member of the Felician honors program, which requires a minimum of 90 hours of community service. Some of her activities have included serving as a physical therapy aid and participating in the Felician Midnight Run program, which benefits New York City's homeless population.

In addition, she is a member of Felician's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has participated in such events as the Northern New Jersey Walk for Wishes, Make-A-Wish iPad raffle and Play4Kay Day, to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

In the classroom, Couzo boasts a 3.87 grade point average while majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy. She is a member of the school's honor program and was recently accepted into a joint doctorate program in physical therapy at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month is awarded from September through May to select student-athletes who excel in athletics, the classroom and the community.
