Dig Pink

Felician College athletes changed their colors for one night and made a champion-caliber statement that benefited those who need it the most.

Donning pink-accented uniforms instead of the Golden Falcons green and gold, the Felician College women’s volleyball squad raised $1,601 at its annual "Dig Pink" match last October, the second-most funds in the state of New Jersey, and tops among Garden State NCAA programs. The Side-Out Foundation, an organization of volleyball players and coaches that supports breast cancer patients, recently released its top fundraising teams of 2012.

Felician ran its Dig Pink event for the third consecutive season in 2012, but teamed up with the Side-Out Foundation for the first time. Through gate donations, raffles, and apparel sales, the Golden Falcons brought in a school-record $1,601.

Montclair High School was the top fundraiser with $3,939.

Guided by Head Coach Amber Butler, the Felician women's volleyball program has raised $2,662 for various breast cancer charities since 2010.

"The department of athletics applauds coach Butler and her student-athletes for their efforts in this initiative," said Felician Director of Athletics Ben DiNallo Jr. "We are proud to achieve this outstanding honor."

The Side-Out Foundation is a support and advocacy organization dedicated to making a significant and identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families by supporting clinical trials, increasing compassionate support services and educating communities.

Felician has already scheduled its 2013 Dig Pink event. It will be held on Friday, October 11, during the Golden Falcons' 7 p.m. home match against Bloomfield College.
