Items You’re Expected to Provide

Students are expected to bring desk lamps, towels, blankets, pillows, alarm clocks, coat hangers, cups, plates and other utensils (for those late night snack attacks), personal care items and personal medication.  Many students find laundry bags or hampers, stereos, flashlights and radios useful. If you are interested in bringing a refrigerator or microwave, please DO NOT make arrangements for such until after you have read the Refrigerator Policy on the next page.  Telephones are provided.  They are digital phones -- do not try to plug in your own phone from home, as it will not work.

Arrival Information

An information packet will be sent out to each student (approximately three weeks before check-in) outlining the date and time of arrival and the orientation program.  If your arrival plans are later than the dates established, please contact the Residence Life Office immediately so that your room can be held until your arrival on campus.

Please keep in mind that requests to move on campus earlier than scheduled move in dates will only be granted to international students with extenuating travel conditions, student teachers who have received approval from the Director of the Division of Teacher Education, or athletes involved in regularly scheduled games, practice or tournaments who have received approval from the Director of Athletics.

Community Meetings

Occasionally during the semester, and on the night of check-in, each residence hall may determine a need to call a mandatory meeting of all the members of the residence hall community.  Felician College rules and regulations, facilities use, and introduction of housing staff are often the agenda items.

Please make sure to note the time and location of such meetings upon check-in, and whenever they are called, as they are mandatory.  If you must miss a meeting, (due to class or work only) please notify the Assistant Director of Residence Life immediately, so that she may arrange for your exemption from attendance.

Bicycle and Motorcycle Parking and Storage

Bicycles and motorcycles can be parked in designated areas only.  Bicycles that are taken into or stored inside the building may be impounded.  Fire regulations require that all means of egress are clear at all times.  Motorcycles may not be stored in the building, nor may they be parked within 30 feet of the building.

Storage Facilities

There are no storage facilities located in the residence halls.  All personal items must be stored in your room.

Smoking

Felician College is a smoke, drug, and alcohol-free college.  Smoking is not permitted anywhere on campus at any time.  Individuals wishing to smoke on campus must do so outside of any campus buildings, in a place that is free and clear from pedestrians or other passers by, avoiding the posing of a health hazard to anyone walking by.

Student Use of Refrigerators and Food Storage

Felician College has made arrangements to have Hot/ColdTM refrigerator/freezer/microwave units installed in each room.   If paid for and ordered in advance they will be present in your room at check-in.  Roommates are asked in advance to determine whether they will be sharing a unit.  The cost is $130 per year. Full amount due must be received from renters prior to their delivery and use

Please note:   These units are the only approved microwave/refrigerator combination units, so if a student wishes to have BOTH a microwave and a refrigerator, s/he must rent this unit.  The units have a regulator that enables the refrigerator to temporarily shut down each time the microwave is on, preventing electrical overload.

If you DO NOT want to rent our unit, small refrigerators OR microwaves are permitted in residents’ rooms.  NOT BOTH.  This appliance must have a UL seal of approval.

Refrigerators cannot exceed a maximum of two cubic feet and can be no longer than 20” x 17”, or dimensions exceeding 7,140 cubic inches.  The electrical wattage of either device is not to exceed 45 watts.  The electric load is not to exceed 0.38 amperes when running.  Securing and placing of this equipment when it is no longer desired, is the resident’s responsibility.

It is permissible to keep non-perishable food in student rooms if stored in suitable containers.  However, no meals may be prepared in student rooms, and the College expressly bans the use of hot plates and all other cooking devices within the residence halls.
