Medical
Technologists perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures
that aid in the diagnosis in treatment and prevention and
monitoring of disease. The major areas within this discipline
include Blood Banking, Clinical Microbiology, Urinalysis,
Clinical Chemistry and Immunology. Many employment
opportunities are available in hospital clinical laboratories as
well as private and government laboratories, HMO's,
pharmaceutical companies, research organizations and
universities.
The
curriculum consists of classroom instruction and student
laboratory experiences integrated with clinical practice at
affiliated clinical laboratories. Additional experiences are
provided in laboratory management, education, research,
instrumentation and computers.
The Medical
Technology Program is fully accredited by the National
Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) and
graduates are eligible to sit for the national registry
examination administered by the American Society of Clinical
Pathologists, MT (ASCP).
