Felician College Baseball
Seeded #1 Entering CACC Championship Series

(5/1/02) -- Teikyo Post University will host the 2002 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball championship Thursday through Saturday at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn.

The four-team, double-elimination tournament begins Thursday at noon when top seed Felician College (12-4 CACC, 24-20 overall) faces No. 4 seed Dominican (N.Y.) College  (10-6, 24-16-1). The other first round game features No. 2 Caldwell College (10-6, 13-20) and No. 3 Nyack College (10-6, 25-20). Losers from the first two games will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, and the tournament continues on Friday and Saturday.

 

(Felician Note:  Thursday's Games were rained out, with the schedule being pushed ahead by one day) 

 

The winner of the the tournament earns an automatic berth into next weekend’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics regional playoffs.

 

Felician, just a third-year program, won the regular-season title under first-year coach Steve Svenson. Freshman LHP Chris Eshleman leads the league in victories with an 8-0 record. Dennis Hulse (.444, 46 runs, 22 RBI) and Pete Gorczynski (.444, 1 HR, 32 RBI) are tied for second in hitting. The Golden Falcons led the conference in team hitting with a .346 average.

 

Dominican, the defending tournament champion, earned a return trip to the playoffs by sweeping Felician in a doubleheader on Monday, forcing a four-way tie for three spots. Caldwell and Nyack had the best and second-best records against the other three teams involved in the tie. Dominican edged out Wilmington (Del.) College on the next tiebreaker, record against the first-place team.
